High School Student Support
From the 2021–2022 school year through May 2025, we operated a food pantry and snack cupboard at Blooming Prairie High School. The pantry was discontinued during the summer of 2025 because it was not consistently being used as intended.
Beginning with the 2025–2026 school year, the Blooming Prairie Backpack Program began purchasing snacks for the school nurse’s office and the school social worker. This allows trusted school staff to discreetly provide food to high-school students when they recognize a need.

Food Voucher Program
The Blooming Prairie Backpack Program began providing food vouchers to participating families in the fall of 2020. The number of vouchers that go out each year depends on the funding we receive. Each voucher may be redeemed at Vandal’s Family Market for one loaf of bread, one dozen eggs, one gallon of milk, 1 jar of peanut butter and up to $10 of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Vouchers are also provided during the summer to participating families who opt in to receive them.
Vandal’s Family Market covers 20% of the cost of every redeemed voucher. Monetary donations made to the Blooming Prairie Backpack Program fund the remaining cost of operating the voucher program.
Our program coordinator experienced food insecurity early in her married life and understands firsthand the difference this additional food assistance can make for local families.
